About the Scholarship
We are excited to showcase our McKnight Scholar Program! It has been a primary youth service initiative for Summit Rotary since the 1980s. From the beginning, its purpose was to identify and assist local students who otherwise might not be able to attend college.
We are proud of the growth the program has seen since its founding. It has grown from a single scholarship to approximately 20 scholarships awarded to local students each year. As the program has expanded, we have added monthly workshops and a mentorship component to better prepare our students for the transition to college.
Our Mentorship Program
Every student deserves someone in their corner. As a mentor, you provide support, celebrate milestones, and remind students that they belong — both in the classroom and in their community.

McKnight Scholar Network
When you are a McKnight Scholar, you are not just a one-time recipient of a check. Rather, you are part of something bigger. You are part of a vast network of Summit Rotarians cheering you on, from high school to graduation, to college and graduation, to your first job, and beyond! We want to see you thrive both academically and professionally, and we want to be a resource every step of the way.
Perhaps just as importantly, you are also part of a vast network of peers who participated in the McKnight Scholars program before, during, and after you did. This means that there are other young people, who benefitted from the program, who are now committed to seeing others succeed.
Lean on both of these groups of folks when you need help, and pay it back when you are able to help others.
To that end, we hope that you’ll consider visiting us and sharing your experiences. These insights are incredibly valuable to current students and help us make sure we are continuing to meet the ever-changing needs of our Scholars. We’d love for you to share your wisdom at workshops with current scholars, attend a Summit Rotary meeting, or send along an update for our newsletter.
